What Grace Teaches

Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

The grace of God is the foundation of our redemption. We were “saved by grace” and we are to learn from this grace as well.

            First of all grace teaches us to leave ungodliness. Grace says, “There is a bitter way, avoid it!” There are “worldly lusts” that we are allured to by the flesh. Young people often have a struggle with these “fleshly lust, which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11). Then there is “ungodliness” which can be manifest in our life even after we have gained victory over certain sins of the flesh. Envy, jealously, pride, anger, gossip, and ungratefulness are just a few. Grace says, “Deny these sins and leave them, you don’t want to walk that bitter path.”

            Next, grace instructs us to love godliness. Grace says, “There is a better way, walk here!” We are to be sober minded, aware of what is going on around us as it relates to God’s truth. We are to make the proper judgments and walk “righteously” by implementing what the word of God says. And we are to have a testimony of godliness in this present perverted world in which we live. Enoch walked with God. Noah walked with God. You can to if you will follow the lessons of grace.

            Finally, grace teaches us to look for God. Grace reminds us, “There is a better day coming!” Jesus is coming back. This is a sure hope, a glorious hope, and an anticipated hope. No matter how bad things get, we can rest assured all will be well one day! Jesus will make things right. The problems of sin and sorrow will finally be done away with, once for all. Grace says, “Just keep looking for Jesus, it will be worth it all one day!
